Launch of our Domestic Violence Project

We will be launching our Domestic Violence Project on 11th October 2010 at the Free Word Centre. This project will provide free individual and group therapy for Women Affected by Domestic Violence within Islington.

The Maya Centre works with women for whom violence has been or is a significant part of their lives; we also work with front line providers of services targeting women affected by domestic violence, providing training or supervision.

There will be three experienced therapists providing counselling for this project, offering support in several languages.

We would like to invite you to attend the launch of our valuable Domestic Violence Project at the Free Word Centre on 11th October 2010.

Maya Centre 25th Birthday Party

Thank you so much for supporting the Maya Centre’s fundraising birthday party on 5th October.  I am happy to report that it was a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by all who came.

The beautiful new Free Word venue and the glorious spread of mezze provided by Moro set the tone. Everyone was enthusiastically complimentary about the delicious and beautifully displayed food. Sandi Toksvig had us all laughing with her psychotherapy jokes and then proved to be an adroit auctioneer of our lovely prizes, helped of course by a very generous audience.

Thanks to your and others generosity the evening raised over £8,000 to support the work of the centre. This money will be allocated to our domestic violence project, the funding for which was removed by the Safer Islington Partnership in Autumn 2008. We will now be able to provide 150 counselling sessions during the remainder of this financial year for women in Islington affected by domestic violence.

Thank you again for your support.

With best wishes
