Running from 14 May to 28 May 2024, our upcoming Big Give campaign, ‘The Cost of Being Kind 2 Your Mind’, will be raising funds to support low-income and minoritised women manage their mental health amid a cost-of-living crisis that disproportionately affects these groups.

Women are overrepresented in single-parent households, as carers and among Britain’s poor, making them the hardest hit by the cost-of-living crisis. Bearing the brunt of the mental load when financially planning for households has led to increased national reports and referrals from women with issues like anxiety and depression. Many women do not have the resources to properly take care of their mental health, potentially setting them up for mental health crises in the future.

The Maya Centre offers a range of completely free services to low-income women across North London through one-to-one and group counselling, psychoeducation workshops, wellbeing groups and activities. With all our clients being low-income, we recognise how finances impact one’s mental health and use these early intervention methods to mitigate the personal and societal costs of poor mental health.

‘The Cost of Being Kind 2 Your Mind’ campaign will:

  • Spotlight the unique challenges faced by women during the cost-of-living crisis
  • Raise awareness of the Maya Centre’s work in the community and ability to provide free mental health services
  • Promote early intervention and self-care
  • Fundraise to expand our capacity and accessibility
  • Foster a caring, supportive community for women

The funds raised will supplement our core counselling services, enabling us to increase the number of sessions provided and/or lengthen courses of treatment.

Pledges need to be made by 5pm on Friday 1 March at the very latest. We thank you in advance for helping us support women in being kind to their minds! Your backing will mean the world to them.
