Finding Calm and Joy Through Mindful Movement

The Maya Centre recently ran a free 8‑week Mindful Movement and Joyful Dance class, facilitated by the lovely Aditi Kaushiva from Move to Thrive. This special workshop took place at Islington Mind as part of our co-production with Pathway to Mental Health Recovery partnership.

From the moment you walked into the room, you could feel the warmth and kindness. It was a friendly, inviting space where women came together to release stress, feel calmer, and reconnect with their own sense of joy and playfulness. The workshop wasn’t just about movement, it was about grounding, breathing, and finding support in a caring, fun and energetic community.

Many women who took part shared how much the experience meant to them. They told us they felt “more energy,” “relaxed,” and even “more confident in myself”. Hearing this truly shows the power of gentle, mindful movement.

There was a lot of interest in this community class, with many women eager to join. This shows how much we all need calm, supportive spaces that help us care for our emotional wellbeing in a holistic way.

As we look ahead, we hope to offer more opportunities like this, spaces where women can move, breathe, and feel held by community.
