Group Therapy

What is Group Therapy?

Group therapy is a safe and supportive space where women come together to share, learn, and grow. Our groups are led by qualified female therapists who often have specialist training and extensive experience in running therapeutic groups.

Like 1-to-1 counselling, group therapy allows you to speak openly and confidently. But it also offers the chance to connect with others—some may have similar experiences, others may have different ones. But everyone shares the common goal of improving their mental health.

Attending a group can help you:

  • Build emotional strength
  • Improve social interaction
  • Gain insight through shared experiences and relating to others more
  • Being heard, supported and deepen understanding of issues you are facing

Joining a group might feel like a big change, especially if you’re used to 1-to-1 therapy. It can be difficult to open up at first. But over time, this shared space often becomes a powerful part of healing.

Group therapy offers many benefits for emotional and social well-being. It helps reduce isolation and creates a sense of belonging. Participants often gain better self-awareness, improve communication skills, and build empathy and trust. The group setting is a safe place to learn coping strategies, receive different perspectives, and feel more comfortable in social situations. Over time, deepen understanding of both yourself and others.

About Our Groups

We offer short-term therapy groups, usually lasting between 10 to 16 sessions. Some groups focus on specific themes such as art therapy or drama therapy , while others are more open and flexible, allowing space for creative expression and personal sharing.

Group themes may vary depending on community needs and available funding. Our groups are tailored to support the communities, for example:

  • Drama Therapy Group within our Black Women Project for Islington residents
  • Art Therapy Group for refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable immigrants
