Counselling

At The Maya Centre, we believe every woman deserves a safe, welcoming space to be heard and supported. Our counselling services are here to help you work through challenges, understand your feelings, and build confidence and wellbeing. Whether you’re facing grief, stress, anxiety, or relationship difficulties, our free counselling is designed to meet you where you are.

What is Counselling?

Counselling is a type of talking therapy where a trained professional offers a safe and confidential space for you to share your feelings, thoughts, and experiences. It can help you cope with stress, anxiety, depression, loss, or other difficult life events.

Our Counselling

At The Maya Centre, our counsellors listen with understanding and support, helping you explore your emotions and find your own ways to feel stronger, make positive changes, and take care of your wellbeing.

Our 1-to-1 counselling is available in 13 languages, including Somali, Bengali, Urdu, Farsi, Armenian, Hindi, German, Kurdish, Albanian, Turkish and Korean. Our therapists are registered with BACP, UKCP or BPC. They have strong experience in women’s mental health and understand how trauma, abuse, violence or emotional stress can affect your life.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • Up to 2.5 hours of pre-therapy assessment to help us understand your needs.
  • The option to have therapy in your mother-tongue language (if available) or in English.
  • Between 10 and 22 counselling sessions, depending on your situation, funding, and availability.
  • Weekly 50-minute sessions, usually face-to-face at our centre in Islington, London. Online or phone sessions are also available when needed.
  • A safe and confidential space to talk about bereavement, grief, relationships, mental health, or overall wellbeing.
  • Information and local resources to support you, including community and group activities at The Maya Centre.
  • At the end of counselling, we can offer an internal referral to other Maya Centre services for continued support.

If you feel our counselling could help, you can refer yourself or someone else here.
