We support women on low incomes whose mental health have been affected by a range of experiences including depression and anxiety, violence against women and girls, inequality, discrimination and racism.
We work together to give women from different cultural and language backgrounds more voice, choice and control over their wellbeing and life decisions. We have created a safe and inclusive women-for-women community to improve the mental and emotional wellbeing of the women we serve.
Specialising in trauma-informed therapy, 86% of the women we supported last year had experienced violence. Within this, 52% had experienced sexual abuse, 30% childhood sexual abuse, 13% honour based violence and 10% Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). We also support women refugees and asylum seekers who do not have English as a first language. Accessing free counselling in their native language can be life saving for the women we support.
Our focus is on building trust, resilience and voice, and our approach fully addresses the diversity of the women’s backgrounds and needs, prioritising intercultural and intersectional approaches to therapeutic practice. We also influence best practice in women’s mental health and wellbeing across our local community in Islington and the surrounding areas.
Data we collect from our service users demonstrates that after completing a course of counselling:
We want to reach even more women with our valuable service.
We want to recruit new women to the service and to extend our workshops programme to more minority communities.
We want to offer more sessions and increase our language offering to reach more women.
With support from your organisation, we can help more women in Islington.
