What can we do as a society to stop domestic abuse from happening? We asked people out and about in Angel to add their thoughts to the wall. What would you add to the wall?(In partnership with Cripplegate Foundation KMEWO Solace Women’s Aid & Maa Shanti)

“As a society we do not talk about domestic abuse enough. The domestic abuse conversation wall was set up to encourage people to talk about a topic which is often considered taboo.
Acknowledging that domestic abuse and Violence Against Women and Girls are sadly a widespread issue in our society is the first step towards tackling the problems. In fact, the Police Commissioner Mark Rowley said VAWG is a national emergency in a recent press conference.
Domestic abuse is stigmatised in certain communities due to shame and cultural beliefs. Often victims of abuse feel responsible for their situation and are unable to speak up. By normalising the conversation, and raising awareness of how to recognise and prevent abuse, through initiatives such as the domestic abuse conversation wall, people may feel more empowered to speak out. Together we can make change happen.”
